The holidays are a time for giving, care, and focusing on what truly matters in our lives.
And here at Scobey, we often say that moving is about much more than just taking boxes from one location to another. Itโs about care, support, and moving what matters most to you.
This holiday season, weโve been hard at work both on the road and in our local neighborhoods.
To celebrate the holiday season, weโd like to share two stories about “Texas-sized logisticsโ and partnering with United Way in their “Texas-sized” mission to support the community.
Supporting Our Neighbors through the United Way

Usually, our moving boxes help families bring belongings into their new homes.ย
But this past November, we had the privilege of seeing those same boxes serve a different purpose. Scobey (as part of the Appleton Moving Company family) was honored to support the United Way of El Paso County and its mission to respond to the needs of local families.
By donating our professional moving boxes to serve as care packages, we partnered with the United Way team to provide nutritious food to over 700 people for the holiday season.ย
The United Way also distributed 850 Thanksgiving meal boxes to residents impacted by economic challenges.ย
Seeing our equipment used to support our neighbors was truly a highlight of our year!ย
We loved getting to help our community in this meaningful way.
A Texas-Sized Delivery to the State Capitol
While some of our team members were focused on community care packages, others were busy with a Texas-sized logistical challenge.ย
We had the honor of delivering “Mamie,” a 28-foot-tall Virginia pine, to the Texas State Capitol in Austin. Officials noted that this was the largest Christmas tree ever displayed in the House Chamber.ย
What does it take to get a 28-foot-tall Virginia pine tree 270 miles from Denison, Texas to the House Chamber floor?
It takes the same meticulous planning, care, and the expertise we bring to every move.
From securing the tree on a flatbed trailer to prevent damage during the drive to navigating narrow corridors and stairs up to Capitolโs second floor, this special delivery demonstrates three promises we make to every customer: careful planning, expert handling, and proven reliability.

1. Promising (and Delivering) Expert Planning
To bring Mamie to the Texas Capitol, preparation was everything. A tree of this size couldnโt just be dropped off. It had to follow a specific, detailed route across the state and through downtown Austin.ย
Unlike normal, 7-foot trees, Mamie weighed several hundred pounds. We loaded the tree on one of our flatbed trailers. We secured it with the trunk to the front and supported the top to prevent โwhiplashโ or breaking during the drive.
If youโve ever been to the House Chamber, you know that it has a narrow entranceโฆ and is on the second floor! We brought along the crew and equipment needed to navigate the corridors and stairs. Then we hand-carried the tree into the building and up to the House floor.
On the floor, we set up Mamie using equipment to pull the tree upright and secured it into a heavy base designed to support a 28-foot tree.
ย It was a successful move because of detailed planning and expertise.
Just like we thought through every detail with the Texas State Christmas tree, weโre meticulous about planning your move.ย
Whether youโre heading across town or across the state, your move requires this same thorough planning. You deserve professional Texas movers who treat your schedule, the routing, and the labor with the same level of care.

2. Taking Care of Cherished Items
For 15 years, Elves Farm has provided the state with a Christmas tree. It needed expert handling to make sure it arrived safely at the Capitol.
Highway travel can โburnโ a treeโs needles, dry out the wood, and break branches. We took precautions to ensure Mamieโs safety (as well as the safety of other drivers) on the road.
We realize that this is more than branches, needles, and a trunk. The Texas State Tree is precious, heavy, and symbolic cargo, and a piece of Texas history.
Like Mamie the Tree, your cargo during a move is more than a truckload of boxes. Those boxes contain memories, treasured items, and history.
That fragile antique from your grandmother or the box of irreplaceable baby clothes are important to youโฆ so theyโre important to us.ย
Itโs important for you to feel confident that these treasured items will be handled with the same care as the Capitolโs yearly centerpiece.

3. Reputation and a Proven Track Record Matter
Bringing Mamie from Denison to Austin and supporting our El Paso community was an honor. And being trusted with these jobs is the greatest recommendation.
To handle a Texas-sized job like moving a 28-foot tree, you need a mover thatโs up for the job. And to be trusted in your local community, you need a reputation thatโs stood the test of time.
We loved getting to help in both El Paso and Austin this December. And we donโt take that trust lightly, whether weโre moving a huge tree, care boxes, or your belongings
As a customer, you deserve a company thatโs reliable AND fully accredited and transparent about cost and operations.
Here at Scobey, weโve been helping Texas families move for over a century. Weโre proud Pinnacle Members and sit on the board of the Southwest Movers Association (SMA). And as trusted agents of Mayflower Moving Company, you can feel certain that your move will be handled with care.

How To Find a Mover Up to the Task
As you research professional Texas movers to handle your upcoming move, how can you be sure that theyโre right for the job?ย
Here are some ways you can feel confident that youโre choosing a reputable mover who will handle your relocation with care.
- Look for Proven Logistical Expertise: Your move needs more than just a truck; you need a strategic plan. Whether itโs navigating a 28-foot tree into the Texas House Chamber or moving your piano into a second-story apartment, ask your mover about their experience with specialty items and difficult floor plans. Make sure to get a virtual or in-person walkthrough of your home so that the movers know the specific challenges of your unique move.
- Understand How You Are Protected: Make sure you understand the valuation coverage options for your belongings. A reputable moving partner will help you understand how your possessions are protected against unexpected issues during transport.
- Verify Licenses and Credentials: Always check a moving companyโs licenses and credentials. Unfortunately, there are Grinches out there. Always be cautious of moving brokers who sell your move to a third party. Look for agents of trusted van lines like Mayflower.
- Pay attention to reviews: Look for testimonials that mention not just the move itself, but the professionalism of the crew. Weโre proud of our teams because they go and beyond to provide the best service to our customers.
